\n
\nwhen quoting, if the grammer does not make sense, should you change it using brackets, even if you have not altered the sentence at all to make the grammer bad?

\n1. when quoting, and changing the verb tense can you simply put the new tense in brackets and not include the other word? And elipses are not needed to show that you changed the word?
\n ex: "protect myself whether it did or not"
\n change to: "protect myself whether [they] did or not"
\n2. when quoting someone who quoted another person, I know we talked about putting qtd. in the parentheses at the end. But what if you give the name of the speaker in the lead-in, can you just quote the source normally?
\n ex: As stated by an inmate at a juvenile correctional school, \u201c......\u201d (Harcourt 71).","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"2098083","body":"OK.
\n1. Not sure I totally get the question, but your example is correct. If you change any word, eliminate the one you are replacing and use brackets to indicate the replacement. Not sure what you mean about ellipses. Ellipses are the dot-dot-dots (...). You only use them to indicate where you skipped something, not where you replaced something with a different word.
\n2. If you write the name of the speaker in the text of the sentence, you should still put the qtd in the IPR. Example: Bailey Rehnberg asserts that "all students despise research papers" (qtd. in Tapp 43).
